Shine Bright
Being a Light for Jesus at School
School can feel like a whole world of its own: friends, classes, sports, social media, pressure, and big emotions. As a young girl who loves Jesus, you might sometimes wonder how to stand out without feeling awkward or different. But here’s the beautiful truth: you were made to shine.

School can feel like a whole world of its own: friends, classes, sports, social media, pressure, and big emotions. As a young girl who loves Jesus, you might sometimes wonder how to stand out without feeling awkward or different. But here’s the beautiful truth: you were made to shine.
In Matthew 5:14, Jesus says, “You are the light of the world.” That means if you belong to Him, His light lives inside you. You don’t have to try to glow on your own. When you stay close to Jesus, His love naturally shines through you.
So what does that look like in real life?
Being a light at school starts with kindness. Sit with the girl who seems left out. Smile at someone who looks like they’re having a hard day. Stand up gently when someone is being teased. Small acts of love make a big difference. People may not always say it, but they notice.
It also means choosing your words carefully. In group chats, classrooms, and hallways, gossip spreads fast. Instead of joining in, you can change the subject or say something positive. When others complain about a teacher, you can show respect. Your words have power, the power to heal or to hurt. Choosing kindness always leads to the power to heal.
Another way to shine is by staying true to your values. You may feel pressure to dress a certain way, talk a certain way, or laugh at jokes you know aren’t right. It’s okay to be different. Remember 1 Timothy 4:12: “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” Showing up for Jesus at school is exciting. It is not something that goes unnoticed: you will shine so brightly. Your peers and teachers will see the light in you, and you will encourage others to spread love and kindness.
