Sometimes faith isn’t built in the big moments — it’s built in the little ones, right where God meets you when you turn to Him.
I was waiting for a concert to start when a familiar wave of anxiety hit. A memory tied to that place popped up out of nowhere and I felt angry. My first thought was to step outside and call a friend to pray.
But I didn’t want to move.
And I didn’t want that moment to steal my joy.
So I did something simple.
Right where I was, I quietly began thanking God — one small thought at a time. Nothing fancy. Just gratitude.
Within a few minutes, the concert started and the anxiety and anger faded.
Here’s what I learned: the parts of your brain that feel anxiety and anger and the parts that express gratitude can’t work fully at the same time. You can’t stay stuck in those feelings while you’re choosing thankfulness.
Sometimes the smallest step — turning to Him with a simple “thank You, God” — can shift everything.
Naomi: Big Faith in Hard Moments
In the book of Ruth, Naomi made small choices to turn back to God and accept help from someone else. At first, she tried to push Ruth away, thinking it was better for Ruth to stay behind. But Ruth refused to leave her.
Those little steps changed everything — a reminder that faith often grows quietly, one decision at a time. Sometimes this involves help from others, even when we feel like a burden.
The Bible says, “Carry each other’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2).
Their faith didn’t show up in big, dramatic moments. It showed up in everyday decisions that moved them closer to God.
The Squad
That moment between Naomi and Ruth reminds us of something important: you were never meant to walk through life alone.
Even Naomi—hurt, empty, bitter, and unsure—needed someone beside her. We all do. Everyone needs a “Ruth”. A trusted friend who stays when things get hard.
Faith grows best in community.
Reflection:
Who is your “Ruth” right now? Someone who helps carry your burdens, speaks truth over you or simply sits with you in the struggle?
And who is your “Naomi” right now? That person God might be asking you to support, encourage or walk with?
The Little Things
It is amazing how little things can work to change the course of a day. Think about how it feels when someone randomly gives you a sweet compliment or does something kind when you least expect it.
Little moments matter more than we think.
So let’s practice them together.
The Challenge: One Small Habit a Day
Small steps add up. Try this simple 7-day challenge and see what God does.
□ Day 1 - One Verse, One Truth
Read one Bible verse and write down one thing that it teaches you about God.
□ Day 2 - One Act of Kindness
Do one kind thing for someone - a text, a note, a hug or help in a small way.
□ Day 3 - One Prayer for a Friend
Pray for one friend by name. Ask God to bless, guide and strengthen them.
□ Day 4 - One Boundary
Choose one healthy boundary for the day. No gossip, no comparison scrolling, no texting someone who drains your peace, saying “no” when you need to.
□ Day 5 - One Minute of Stillness
Set a timer for 60 seconds. Breathe. Talk to God. Listen. That’s it.
□ Day 6 - One Step of Obedience
Ask God: “What’s one small thing You want me to do today?” Then do it.
□ Day 7 - One Praise Report
Write down one thing God did this week - even if it feels small.
Real Talk
Life can be hard. You get caught in the same cycles of ups and downs. Maybe it’s a fight with a friend, a test that didn’t go well or just getting out of bed on a day when everything feels heavy.
You try to make good decisions and stay faithful, but sometimes your own thoughts or other people get in the way of your happiness.
There may be struggles that nobody else knows about. You may be suffering in silence. Or maybe you know someone else who is struggling. Even a small choice, like sending a kind message to a friend, praying for someone quietly or taking a minute to thank God for something, can change the course of your day.
When you do this consistently, it can change the course of your week. Eventually, when you learn to fully rely on Him, it will change the course of your life. Proverbs 3:6 says, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”
You won’t carry those burdens alone. You’ll learn to give them to God. And you’ll be able to help others do the same.
Real change happens through small, repeated choices. Tiny steps matter. BIG FAITH grows in the little things that draw you closer to God.
