It’s going to be tempting to roll your eyes at this, but hear me out:
You weren’t created to be a robot. I know… duh, right? But seriously. You weren’t made to be “on” all the time… cheerful every minute, crushing goals every day, or ready to be social 24/7.
You were created by a God who loves you so deeply that He built rest, emotion, and rhythm into your very body. And that’s not a mistake. It’s love.
You Were Designed With Rhythm
God could’ve made us like machines… the same, every day, with steady energy and no emotional waves. (Hello boring!) But He didn’t.
He created girls with cycles (a rhythm that repeats every month) and those rhythms aren’t random. They’re one of the ways He gently reminds us that we were designed to change and grow.
Some days, you’ll feel so fire. You’ll have energy, confidence, and motivation to talk to everyone and try new things.
Other days, you’ll just want to live in your sweats with your head in a bag of Chick-fil-A and pretend the world doesn’t exist. And you know what? That’s not you being lazy or moody; that’s your body following the pattern God wrote into you. (Is your mind blown yet?!)
Before puberty, your body kind of runs like a straight line, steady and predictable. But as you grow, your hormones start learning a new dance. That dance will keep shifting throughout your teen years as your body learns its own rhythm.
It’s okay if it feels confusing sometimes. You’re not “too emotional.” You’re just learning how to live in the body God designed for you. (Permission to take a deep breath… turns out you’re normal! ;))
He built you with rhythm because He is a God of rhythm! Think about it: the sun rises and sets, the moon waxes and wanes, the tides move in and out. Everything He creates flows in seasons. And you do, too.
Ruth Knew the Power of Her Rhythms
Let’s revisit Ruth’s story. Just to recap, she’s the woman who suffered the loss of her first husband, left everything to follow her mother-in-law, Naomi, and who later married Boaz.
But what if I told you that Ruth’s story is an incredible example of a woman living in tune with her God-given rhythm?
• Her quiet, grieving season:
Before Ruth met Boaz, she experienced deep loss. She let herself grieve and be still. She didn’t rush her healing and didn’t force herself to be happy. That’s like the “winter” part of your cycle… the slower, quieter time when you rest and reflect. (This is called the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.)
• Her season of work:
When she went to glean grain in the fields, Ruth started to find her sparkle again. She felt ready to get back out there and worked like a BOSS. That’s like the “spring” part of your cycle…when your energy rises and your confidence blooms again. (This is called the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle.)
• Her season of boldness:
When Naomi encouraged her to meet Boaz, Ruth embraced the opportunity and acted with confidence and grace. She wasn’t a “look at me girl” but she did walk in wisdom, courage, and trust in God. That’s like the “summer” season of your cycle… when you’re high-energy and full of main character energy. (This is called the ovulatory phase of the menstrual cycle.)
Ruth didn’t push herself to be “on” all the time. She honored each season God brought her through. And because she lived that way (present, humble, and grounded in faith) Boaz noticed not just her beauty, but her character.
That’s what happens when we live in sync with how God made us. We don’t have to perform. We simply shine.
You Were Built by Love, for Love
When God made you, He knew how exhausting it would be if girls had to keep the same energy 24/7. That’s not how He wants His daughters to live! Because He is love, He intentionally built love into every part of you… even your emotions and your cycle.
That means:
• When you feel full of energy and joy- God smiles.
• When you need quiet or rest- He’s right there, too.
• When your emotions feel a little messy- He isn’t disappointed; He understands.
You don’t have to hide your changing moods or feel guilty for needing space. Jesus Himself took time away from the crowds to rest and pray. If He needed that, how much more do we?
Here’s the truth, sweet friend:
You don’t have to hustle to be worthy.
You don’t have to smile to be loved.
You don’t have to pretend to be okay all the time.
You were built by Love- on purpose, for a purpose.
As your hormones start learning their rhythm, you’ll realize something amazing… your high-energy days and your low-key ones both matter. God uses all of it to grow things in you… like empathy, patience, and wisdom. (Just like our girl Ruth!) It’s how you learn to love others, yourself, and to understand just how deeply God loves you.
A Few Things to Remember
If you only remember a few things from this, let it be these:
• You are not “too much.” You are beautifully complex and intentionally designed.
• Rest isn’t weakness ; it’s worship.
• Every season of your body and emotions is a reflection of God’s creativity and love for you.
• You don’t have to be “on” all the time to shine.
When you learn to embrace your design (even the parts that feel confusing or emotional) you’ll feel His peace wash over you. Because you’ll start to see what God sees: a girl built by Love, made to bring His light and love into the world, one season at a time.
Before You Go
When you feel different from one week to the next, don’t panic. That’s not you falling apart. That’s you leaning into your cyclical design. You can smile because you know this is simply you blossoming into the beautiful girl God dreamed up from the very start.
Just like Ruth, your story is unfolding in seasons. Some will be quiet and hidden, some bold and full of light. But every one of them is sacred.
Because Love built you. And that means every part of you has purpose.
