How to Handle the Heat When Your Faith Makes Things Awkward

Son-Burned

You know that moment. The one where the convo takes a turn… and suddenly your faith is the thing. Someone makes a joke you know doesn’t sit right. Your friends start talking about something you don’t want to be part of. Or worse, you feel that tiny nudge in your spirit like, “Say something…” and you’re like… God, be so for real right now.

Cue the heat. Cue the awkward. Cue the internal meltdown. Welcome to being a girl who’s a little… Son-burned. Because following Jesus? It’s not always soft sunsets and aesthetic quiet times. Sometimes it feels like standing in the blazing sun with no shade, wondering if everyone’s staring at you.

But here’s the truth, that heat? It’s not here to ruin you, it’s here to refine you. “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). Light only matters when it’s noticeable, and noticeable usually means… different. Let’s be honest, sometimes you don’t want to be different. You just want to blend in, laugh at the joke, go along with the vibe, keep things easy… no tension, no weird looks, no “why are you like this?” moments. But blending in dims your light. And you weren’t made to dim. You were made to shine so bright it shifts the atmosphere.

That doesn’t mean you become the girl who lectures everyone mid-hangout, please don’t do that!! It means you become the girl who quietly, confidently lives like she knows who she belongs to. It’s choosing not to engage when things go sideways. It’s changing the subject with intention. It’s saying “I’m gonna sit this one out” without a 10-minute explanation. It’s strength that doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful. “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” — 2 Timothy 1:7. Read that again… not fear, not people-pleasing, not “say yes so they don’t think I’m weird.” Power. Love. Self-control. That’s your energy source.

And let’s talk about the awkward part, because yeah, it’s real. Following Jesus will sometimes make you the odd one out. You might lose invites. You might feel misunderstood. You might sit there thinking, Is it worth it? Short answer? Yes. Long answer? Also yes, but not because it’s easy, because it’s eternal. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind…” (Romans 12:2). You’re not here to copy paste culture. You’re here to change it. That’s the whole point of being Solar Powered. You don’t run on approval, trends, or what everyone else is doing, you run on the Son… on truth, on purpose, on a calling that’s bigger than fitting in.

So yeah, sometimes your faith will make things awkward. But awkward doesn’t mean wrong. Uncomfortable doesn’t mean you’re off track. And standing out doesn’t mean standing alone. Because God is with you in every tense conversation, every weird silence, every moment you choose Him over the easy option.

And that kind of faith? It doesn’t just survive the heat, it radiates through it. So next time things get a little too hot, don’t panic. Just remember who you are: a girl lit up by the Son, 100% charged, and changing the game… one bold, faithful moment at a time.
